Free internet radio for the GNOME desktop, made in Norway by Aamot Innovation. GNOME Radio is packaged in Fedora, so installing it on Fedora 45 Beta takes one command.
The in-browser stream has been retired. It didn't play reliably across Windows, macOS and Linux browsers. Install GNOME Radio for a native player with media keys, station maps and now-playing info.
GNOME Radio is in the official Fedora repositories. No extra repos, Flatpak remotes or COPR needed.
For a fresh install, download Fedora Workstation 45 Beta and write it to a USB stick:
Download Fedora Workstation 45 Beta
Already on Fedora 44? Upgrade in place, then reboot into the upgrade:
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=45 sudo dnf offline reboot
If third-party packages block the upgrade, add --allowerasing to the download command. Fedora 45 is a beta; the final release is planned for 20 October 2026.
Open Terminal and run:
sudo dnf install gnome-radio
This installs the Fedora 45 package (version 83.0.2) together with the GStreamer plugins it needs for Ogg Vorbis and MP3 streams.
Open Activities, search for GNOME Radio, and pick a station. Or launch from Terminal:
# Classic edition (C, GTK) gnome-radio # Object-oriented edition (Python, GTK 4, libadwaita) gnome-radio-oop
If a station stays silent, run GNOME Radio from Terminal and look at the GStreamer message — it usually names the missing codec. For AAC stations, also install gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free.
Fedora 45 ships 83.0.2; release 84.0.0 is already in Rawhide. To run it on Fedora 45 now, build from the source tarball:
sudo dnf builddep gnome-radio curl -LO https://www.gnomeradio.org/src/gnome-radio-84.0.0.tar.xz tar xf gnome-radio-84.0.0.tar.xz cd gnome-radio-84.0.0 ./configure --prefix=/usr make sudo make install
To go back to the Fedora package later, run sudo make uninstall in the same folder, then sudo dnf reinstall gnome-radio.
GNOME Radio is a Linux desktop application. You can still run it without replacing your current system:
Use Fedora Media Writer (available for Windows and macOS) to create a Fedora 45 Beta USB stick, boot from it, and install GNOME Radio in the live session.
Install Fedora Workstation 45 Beta in a VM such as VirtualBox, VMware or UTM, then follow the steps above inside it.
For everyday listening, install Fedora alongside your existing system. The Fedora installer can shrink a partition for you — back up first.

The original C application built on GTK and GStreamer, with a station map that plots where each broadcaster is located.
A Python 3 rewrite on GTK 4 and libadwaita with an object-oriented architecture, described in a published OOP specification.
GNOME Radio is free to download. Buying through Aamot Innovation funds continued development and gets you direct help from the developer.
